On Wednesday night a U.S Marine opened fire at a Southern California bar killing at least 12 people and injuring 21 others before taking his own life.
The suspect, dressed in all black with sunglasses, shot an unarmed bodyguard outside before entering the bar and continued to shoot. Gunshots were reported at 11:20 pm sending panicked survivors to hide behind bar stools while others tried to escape using chairs to break the windows.
The suspect has been identified as 28 year old David Long who legally purchased a glock 21.45 caliber handgun with an extended magazine to shoot staff, patrons, and a sheriff's deputy at the Borderline Bar and Grille.
Investigators are still trying to figure out the motives of the gunman. Authorities have identified a Facebook post that is believed to be posted by the gunman during the time of the attack. The post said “I hope people call me insane... (laughing emoji).. wouldn't that just be a big ball of irony? Yeah.. I'm insane, but the only thing you people do after these shootings is 'hopes and prayers'.. or 'keep you in my thoughts'... every time... and wonder why these keep happening…”
Of the 12 victims, 11 names have been identified; Sargent Ron Helus, Cody Coffman, Justin Meek, Alaina Housley, Noel Sparks,Daniel Manrique, Telemachus Orfanos, Jake Dunham, Blake Dunham, Sean Adler, and Blake Dingman.
