A new law was passed on October first that made talking on handheld cell phones while driving illegal in the state of Connecticut. According to Sergeant Vance with the Ct state police the law was enacted to make the roads safer and drivers more alert. Connecticut has a lot of traffic on its high ways and the new law is meant to make drivers focus 100 percent of their attention on operating their vehicles. Police are enforcing the law, and anyone pulled over must face a 100 dollar fine. However the first time you are pulled over you can avoid paying the heavy fine by purchasing a headset. When you send in the proof of purchase the police department will forgive your ticket for your first offense. As for here on campus, Public Safety is still discussing how to enforce the law on campus roads.
